How to Request Disability Accommodations
Blinn College is committed to providing equal opportunities for all students. If you have a disability and need accommodations, please follow these simple steps:
Step-by-Step Process:
STEP 1: Submit Your Documentation
Provide documentation from a qualified professional clearly stating your disability and how it affects you. Disabilities may include:
-
ADHD/ADD
-
Physical Disability
-
Traumatic Brain Injury
-
Autism Spectrum Disorder
-
Low Vision/Blind
-

-
Mental Health Condition
Documentation must:
-
Clearly state your diagnosis and its impact on daily activities.
-
Be prepared by a licensed professional (doctor, psychologist, counselor, etc.).
-
Be typed, signed, and on professional letterhead (prescription pads and handwritten notes may not be sufficient).
If you don't have formal documentation, please have your healthcare provider complete the Disability Verification Form.
Submit documentation by email, fax, in person, or upload it directly during Step 2.
STEP 2: Complete the Online Intake Form
After submitting documentation, complete the online intake packet available here. Once submitted, Disability Services will contact you by phone or your Blinn email.
STEP 3: Receive Your Letter of Accommodation (LOA)
Your LOA will be sent to your Blinn email. Follow the included instructions to utilize your accommodations. Access your Blinn email through the myBLINN portal.
STEP 4: Renew Accommodations Each Semester
Submit an online request to renew your LOA each semester you need accommodations.
Important Information:
-
Accommodation requests can be submitted anytime but should ideally be completed at least one week before finals to ensure processing.
-
Late requests may result in accommodations being approved for the following semester.
-
Reviews typically take 1-2 weeks but may take longer during busy periods (start of semester, holidays, and finals week).
-
Check your Blinn email regularly for updates from Disability Services. Contact your campus if you do not receive a response within three weeks.
Your Responsibilities:
-
Clearly communicate your needs to Disability Services.
-
Provide appropriate, timely documentation.
Legal Guidelines:
Blinn College follows guidelines from the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendment Act (2008), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973). Accommodations are determined individually and must be appropriate and reasonable, enabling you to meet the essential requirements of your program.
