State of Texas Exemptions and Waivers
Students or parents can email [email protected] with any questions pertaining to these programs directly related to Blinn College. More specific questions about these programs can be found at College For All Texans.
Deadlines
The priority deadline, to ensure that the exemption or waiver is applied to student student’s account, to submit all paperwork for these, or any exemptions, is 2 full weeks prior to the payment due date of a semester. The payment due date is available on the Blinn College calendar. Blinn College policy limits the application of waivers and exemptions to the term of current enrollment or future terms. Waivers and exemptions will not be applied once the term of enrollment has ended or the student has ceased enrollment.
Waiver/Exemption
Blind/Deaf exemption – This covers all tuition and fees plus parking. The student needs to obtain certification from the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services and present the certification letter to the Blinn College Financial Aid Office. This letter can be received by fax, letter, in person, or emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student is meeting the academic requirements. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
Child Protective Services
Adopted Students Formerly in Foster or Other Residential Care – This covers all tuition and fees. The student must provide a letter from Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) stating their eligibility. This letter can be received by fax, letter, in person, or emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student is meeting the academic requirements. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
Students under Conservatorship of the Dept of Family and Protective Services – This covers all tuition and fees. The student must provide a letter from the Texas Dept of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) stating their eligibility. This letter can be received by fax, letter, in person, or emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student enrolled continuously. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
- Children of Disabled or Deceased Firemen, Peace Officers, Game Wardens, and Employees of Correctional Institutions – This covers all required tuition and fees, text books, room and board if living on campus for up to 120 semester credit hours. You must apply through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). The THECB will notify Blinn College of the student’s eligibility. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student is meeting the academic requirements. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
Children of U.S. Military who are Missing in Action or Prisoners of War (MIA/POWs) – This covers all required tuition and fees.
Hazlewood – This covers tuition and fees for the Veteran or their dependent. Please contact the Blinn College’s Veteran Services Office – [email protected] for further information.
Firefighters Taking Fire Science Courses – This covers tuition and some lab for courses that are part of a fire science curriculum. The student needs to obtain a letter providing proof as a paid fire fighter or as a volunteer with an advanced level accredited certification through SFFMA. Present the letter to the Blinn College Financial Aid Office. This letter can be received by fax, letter, in person, or emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student is meeting the academic requirements. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
Peace Officers Enrolled in Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice Courses – This covers tuition for courses offered as part of a criminal justice curriculum. The student needs to obtain a letter providing proof as an employed police officer. Present the letter to the Blinn College Financial Aid Office. This letter can be received by fax, letter, in person, or emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student is meeting the academic requirements. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
Clinical Preceptors – up to $500 per semester per semester for up to 10 semesters or the student receives their bachelor’s degree. Please review the requirements of the program. The Preceptor Exemption application form must be submitted with proof of eligibility from the Nursing department through which the Preceptor has a written preceptor agreement. The letter and application can be received by fax, letter, in person, or emailed as an attachment to [email protected]. This exemption will be applied to all future terms the student registers for as long as the student is meeting the academic requirements. Students who have not attended in more than one long semester must submit a new letter or notify the Financial Aid Office in order for the exemption to be applied again.
TAPS for Tuition Program – Please read the specific requirements and benefits of the program. This exemption covers a portion of tuition and fees up to the amount of the vouchers the student has earned.
