Students from the Blinn College District’s Bryan and Schulenburg campuses recently represented the College with distinction at the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) annual state meeting, held April 10-13.

The Blinn-Bryan Campus Student Government Association (SGA) was honored with the Silver Chapter of Excellence Award – a new distinction that recognizes outstanding student government programs across Texas. To earn this award, Blinn-Bryan demonstrated excellence in officer training, adherence to Robert’s Rules of Order, participation in regional events, and on-campus engagement activities, among other achievements.

“This is the first year TJCSGA has presented Chapter of Excellence awards, and we are incredibly proud that our students’ efforts were recognized at this level,” said Ryan Miller, Director of Student Leadership and Activities for the Bryan Campus.

In addition to the chapter award, Bryan Campus Student Leadership and Activities Coordinator Kierston Williams placed third in the prestigious Advisor of the Year competition. She was nominated by Bryan Campus student Caleb Cochran.

Blinn students also took on key responsibilities throughout the state meeting. Charles Dumesnil, Jr. (Schulenburg Campus) served on the nominations committee, helping select the slate of candidates for next year’s TJCSGA executive board. Chelsea Wellman (Bryan Campus) contributed to the judicial committee, ensuring that conference rules were applied fairly and consistently.

Blinn students will continue to play an active role in TJCSGA next year through regional leadership positions. Students from the Brenham and Bryan campuses were elected to the Region IV Board, including:

  • President – Chrystal Latson, Blinn-Brenham
  • Secretary – Lexi von Rajcs, Blinn-Bryan
  • Treasurer – Claribel Oyirinda, Blinn-Brenham
  • Historian – Halle Tibbetts, Blinn-Bryan
  • Region IV Advisor – Alex Gardner, Blinn-Brenham

“It is always rewarding to see Blinn students work hard and receive recognition from the Texas Junior College Student Government Association,” Miller said. “TJCSGA provides students with an outstanding leadership experience and offers several educational workshops students participate in to gain new leadership skills and ideas to bring back to their respective communities.”
